About World Ocean Radio: Peter Neill, Director of the World Ocean Observatory and host of World Ocean Radio, provides coverage of a broad spectrum of ocean issues from science and education to advocacy and exemplary projects. World Ocean Radio, a project of the World Ocean Observatory, is a weekly series of five-minute audio essays available for syndicated use at no cost by college and community radio stations worldwide.

On June 8th we celebrate World Oceans Day to recognize and celebrate our relationship with the ocean through global connection. In this episode of World Ocean Radio host Peter Neill will ask, "What is World Oceans Day meant to do?" and, "What does it take for the will of the people to coalesce around a single issue, to be informed and changed into a voice for change?"

In this episode of World Ocean Radio host Peter Neill will discuss a number of small, local projects which apply management and sustainability concepts, conservation strategies, and infrastructure improvements, implemented by the very people the ideas and innovations are intended to serve. He will also describe the foundations and organizations which support such coastal projects.
